A DAY ON THE HILL

Several times throughout the year, The Fund goes to Capitol Hill in Harrisburg, PA to advocate and educate about important issues facing women. The trips include rallies, legislative meetings, and actions focusing on ensuring elected officials understand and address critical issues.

Everyone Can Participate!

We’ll guide you every step of the way - we plan the day ahead of time and share information so that you are prepared

No experience is needed - in addition to planning we meet with anyone who is interested beforehand so we can answer ANY questions and give an overview of what the day at the Capitol will look like

No public speaking is required - you will NEVER be required to publicly speak during events

Most importantly, we do everything TOGETHER! You will never be alone

What is the day like in Harrisburg?

Attending a press conference on the Main Rotunda steps or in the East Wing

Press conferences are held daily at the Capitol . They are a great way to bring attention to issues. Typically, we are participants who stand behind the speakers. The more people behind the speaker, the more “supported” the issue looks. Press conferences typically last 30-45 minutes

Dropping off important literature
to legislators

One way to share information is to leave handouts with legislators. Literature drops "lit drops" are when you go to the offices of elected officials and hand them literature on important issues. All 253 legislators (203 House Representatives and 50 Senators) have offices at the Capitol.

When we plan for these days, we take into consideration what legislation or issues we will focus on, what materials to share, and who we should be sharing the materials with - note: this varies trip to trip.

Conversations during lit drops can vary - these convos can be as simple as:

"My name is XYZ, and I wanted to share information on XYZ".

Occasionally, legislator's staff will want to further discuss the issue.

Once in awhile the legislator will be present and also interested in further discussion.

Meeting with legislators
or their staff

When possible, we will also also meet with legislators but there are times we can only meet with a staffer. Staffers are incredible resources, and it is great to meet with them if you have the opportunity.

The Fund can provide support by: helping you prepare for meetings, joining you during legislator/staff meetings, providing materials, and more!
