CURRENT VOTING ISSUES

Gender equity is directly impacted by the decisions made at every level of government. Elections determine who creates policies about education, healthcare, safety, reproductive rights, paid leave,

and economic stability — all issues that directly impact women and girls.

Staying informed about these issues is essential to ensuring that our advocacy efforts

create positive outcomes for gender equity.

The Fund is continually tracking the effects of HR1

(better known as the “Big Beautiful Bill”). Did you know that many of the components of that law did not start upon its passage on July 4th, 2025? Programs affected include Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), and more.

The Supreme Court ruled in the case of Louisiana v. Callias. This critical case gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, a law that was passed in 1965 at the height of the Civil Rights Movement to address racist policies and practices that prevented Black people and other people of color from voting.

The S.A.V.E. America Act is currently stalled in the US Senate, but we continue to monitor it. Why? Because a standalone bill isn’t the only way to get legislation passed. Bills, for a multitude of reasons, are sometimes added to appropriations bills (funding bills). This has been suggested by supporters of the S.A.V.E America Act. The S.A.V.E America Act is problematic for many reasons, but first and foremost is the barriers it would create to voting, specifically for women and marginalized communities.
